Nine(9)=> Map_entry:

A map_entry is a space made in the data-base that controls the functions of Nine(9). You first need a reference to your knowledge_map so that when you upload files or make changes, then the server knows who made them.

Nine(9)=> Map_link:

The map-link tool is designed to make links between different knowledge_maps (either your own or linking to someone else's). It is particularly useful when linking to knowledge_maps far away from your own because it allows you to 'jump' to a particular may anywhere on the nine(9) server.

In order to link maps you must be logged in and already have at least one completed knowledge_map. First click on the image you wish to link from within your knowledge_map - It becomes larger. Specify the hotspot within your map you wish to link from. You now enter the 'edit_mode'. Click upon icon marked map link. When the screen refreshes notice that the server icon (top left hand corner of browser) has changed colour from white to pink. click it. you can now see the entire server map. Remember completed knowledge_maps are shown in bright red. Click on the knowledge_map or archive you wish to link to. The screen refreshes in archive_view mode. you may now choose the map_image you wish to link to or scroll around until you identify a suitable image. When you are ready to make your map_link click on the image you wish to link to. When the screen refreshes you will see your own map again (the one you began by linking from). That means the link has been made. Note: Whenever you make a map_link an email is automatically sent to the map_maintainer of the map you linked to.

Nine(9)=> Map use overview:

Nine(9) is visually arranged on a two dimensional grid something like map co-ordinates. It is 27 wide by 27 deep making a total of 9x9x9 (729) maps. You can see the current use of this Nine(9) at URL: In the example above

Bright RED squares = indicate FINISHED maps.

Dark RED squares = indicate ACTIVE but UNFINISHED maps.

Nine(9)=> Uploading files:

You must always be 'logged in' to work with a knowledge_map (logging in is the first stage of file upload preparation). Are you logged in? (check if you are logged in by looking at the key on the top left side of browser - if the key icon is broken you are logged in).

' + '
If you see a broken key - you are logged in - if not read logging in above.

Logging in is the first stage in the file upload or online image editing process once an initial map_entry has been made(see below).

Uploading for the first time:

Before you can upload image files into a new map you first need to have a map_entry. You can get your archive_maintainer to make you one or she can give you permission to make one yourself. Once you have a map_entry you can then log into your new blank knowledge_map.

Logging into and activating a new map:

Logging into and activating a new map:

Click on the screen where your knowledge_map has been previously allocated. You will now see the nine logo with the word 'login' beneath it, click either text or symbol you will then be asked for map_name and map_password details (provided to you by the archive_maintainer). Once you have done this you will see that the word beneath the Nine(9)symbol now says 'upload' instead of 'login'. Click this. Next you'll see two dialogue boxes which read 'comment' and 'add this file'.

Also note that whenever a new knowledge_map is initiated, an email is automatically sent to the owner of that map containing the URL/Map_name and Map_password.

Before you can upload your first map_image file (map_image files are always the first files uploaded into a new map) you will be asked to type a few words describing the file to be uploaded. You MUST do this. It also makes sense to relate your text in some way to the file to be uploaded - it will assist you later.

Once you have uploaded your first image_map file you'll then be asked for the next image_map file (by returning to the upload image screen} until all nine have been uploaded.

NOTE that no preview of your image_ map files will be displayed on screen until all nine image_map files have been uploaded.

After all nine image_map files have been uploaded you'll see your map in archive_ edit_mode. Nine(9) also automatically transfers you into Nine(9)_EditMode(B).

A note about map_image files:

Map_images form the foundation of a knowledge_map and as such are treated somewhat differently from sound, text, and video files. You cannot preview your images or link to any other files or maps until you have first uploaded nine map_images. Once uploaded, for each of the nine images you upload, Nine(9) will create a half size and a smaller thumbnail size version of the original image.

When Nine(9) has received all nine of your map_images it will create a composite (grid) of all nine images. Placing the images (and image map thumbnails)into the composite in the order that you uploaded them.

After all nine images have been uploaded Nine(9) then automatically transfers you into Nine(9)_EditMode(B). Editing map_image files

If later you decide that you want to change the order of your map_image files, you can do this by using the delete and upload file options within link_mode.

Also note that whenever a map_image file is deleted Nine(9) will not allow you to continue work until a replacement file has been uploaded.

Uploading other file types:

Once you have uploaded your nine map_images you can then upload other files using the link_mode. Uploading sound text and movie files is basically the same way as uploading image files. You click on the map_image, then click again on the largest size map image, then when you upload it's linked to that spot. Remember you will be asked to provide a brief text description of your upload before you are able to upload it. Make sure the description relates to the upload. As we said earlier - this will help your overall file management and linking later.

4. Click on the file you wish to delete. The file is then deleted from your knowledge_map.

*NOTE: If you delete a map_image file, you will be unable to proceed (view your knowledge_map or edit it) until you upload a ninth map_image. Nine(9) needs nine map_image files to be in place at all times to function.

Also note that whenever an image is deleted from your knowledge_map, all links (internal and external are broken), so you'll have to redo all links within that map.

This only however applies to map_image files. Text, sound and video files may be deleted at anytime, but all the links within the knowledge_map remain unharmed.

Nine(9) => Files:

File preparation: types and sizes

map_image files must be (.jpg) 72dpi more pixels then 160 X 160 and no more pixels then 900 x 900. You a should aim at a file size of 50k. These make up the initial interface to the archive_maintainers map. Each image has nine links on it. These can link to another map-image in this archive_maintainer map or to another archive_maintainers map.

text_files must be in TEXT (ASCII) format (.txt) or (html), eg: files made in Notepad, Simple Text, etc. Other formats such as RTF, Word etc will NOT work. you can have a maximum of 400 words in one file. You can have up to 9 text files in your map. Raw text or html are passed to the server and each word is indexed. This allows you to use the word_link tool in the link_pallete to decide which words in your map link to each other.

video_files must be in Quicktime format. They must be a maximum of 320 by 240 pixels and no larger than 10MB per file.

*NOTE:

sound_files should be MP3format.They must be no larger than 2MB per file. Sound is played by clicking the sound ikon. If the ikon is pressed in map_veiw then the when the item that was clicked appears in item_view the sound will automatically start playing.
